EXCLUSIVE: Lionsgate is getting into further into business with Katherine Heigl, one of the few actresses who has proven some box office drawing power. Lionsgate has closed a deal to acquire U.S. distribution rights to One for the Money, an adaptation of the Janet Evanovich crime novel series that Heigl will star in. The Last Song director Julie Ann Robinson will helm an adaptation that’s been rewritten by Nurse Jackie writer Liz Brixius.
Heigl also stars in Killers, which Lionsgate releases June 4. One For The Money was acquired from Lakeshore Entertainment and Sidney Kimmel Entertainment, with Tom Rosenberg and Gary Lucchesi producing with Sidney Kimmel and Wendy Finerman. Lakeshore’s Elisabeth Costa de Beauregard and Nick Meyer’s Sierra Pictures are selling international distribution. Lionsgate COO/Motion Picture Group president Joe Drake made the deal with Rosenberg and Kimmel.
Heigl plays a 30ish divorcee who gets a job with her slimy cousin in the bail bond business. Her first big case involves a local cop wanted for murder who is the guy who broke her heart in high school. This leads to suspense, murder, and some romance.

Hope her mother isn’t on set lol
ain’t that the truth
Really looking forward to this one – Katherine Heigl is a very appealing on screen presence and I am also a huge fan of the books.
she’s a very adept comedienne so great…..
If it ain’t horror or black Lions Gate can’t market it.
sooooo, it’s the BOUNTY HUNTER but with a role reverse
Yuck. She’s so unappealing.
Heigl will be great in the role. If they havn’t cast Gran Ma yet they should get Betty White.
Please advise what movies you were watching that indicated she had talent because I have yet to see one where she was adept or appealing.
Wendy Finerman has great taste. I like the script. Good luck to all.
Thank you.
Hiegl’s playing a much beloved character amongst the readers of
fifteen books in the Evanovich series (with a sixteenth due in June)
…when she was announced as Stephanie Plum, the internet fan buzz seemed to be about 80/20 against her…(their ideal Plum was Sandra Bullock, but everyone’s resigned to the fact that she’s now too old for the role) Actually, I think Heigl will do just fine as Stephanie,as long as the director and screenwriter don’t screw up what could be a long running franchise. Big question now is who is getting the two prime male roles (Morelli and Ranger) that comprise the series’ explosive romantic triangle.
The negative internet buzz reminds me of the outcry after Zellweger was cast as Bridget Jones…and yet, look how that turned out.
Katherine Hiegl playing Stephanie Plum is not the right choice. Anyone who really knows and loves the books knows this.
Can’t believe her movies make money and that she keeps getting opportunities. She’s not funny, she can’t deliver a line and up until her hair went dark, she wasn’t even all that pretty. Can someone please help me understand?
Can’t wait for this film. Books are always a great laugh. We just need Monique playing Lulu and Dwayne Johnson playing Ranger. Wow!
That ungrateful whiner got another job???? Damn….didn’t see that coming.
The book and its premise sound like crap, but I love Heigl so maybe I’ll check it out anyway. We’ll see.
Altho Heigl wouldn’t be my 1st choice, she can portray a frantic humor (27 Dresses) that is a key element in Stephani Plum. BTW Shemar Moore (Criminal Minds Agent Morgan) IS Ranger from the book altho they have cast someone else. Sadness reigns.
