The 63rd Cannes Film Festival has appointed actress Kristin Scott Thomas to be the next Mistress of Ceremony.  That means she introduces jury president Tim Burton and his peers onstage during the Palais des Festivals  when the proceedings get underway May 12, and presides over the closing ceremony on May 23. She held that title  in 1999.

Cannes is about to set its film program and I hear that the Woody Allen-directed You Will Meet A Tall Dark Stranger is definitely premiering there. The film stars Naomi Watts, Anthony Hopkins, Josh Brolin, Antonio Banderas, Freida Pinto and Anna Friel. The fest has so far announced the Ridley Scott-directed Robin Hood for a premiere, and is also expected to line up a premiere for the Oliver Stone-directed Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps, which stars Shia LaBeouf, Michael Douglas and Brolin.
