LOS ANGELES, April 1, 2010—Fox Networks Group (FNG) has established Fox LOOK, a new business unit specializing in the international licensing and production of unscripted programming from Fox Broadcasting Company and Fox Cable Networks, it was announced today by FNG Chairman and CEO Tony Vinciquerra. Veteran Fox executive David Lyle will serve as President of Fox LOOK and report to Vinciquerra. Lyle will also work closely with Marion Edwards, President of International Television.
“There is a strong demand for this type of content internationally and Fox LOOK was created to maximize our footprint in this ever-growing category,” said Vinciquerra. “David Lyle is an expert in the international format business and his passion for the industry will provide us with a tremendous advantage.”
Fox LOOK plans to license formats internationally, form partnerships with international production companies to produce unscripted formats, or establish new production entities in various territories to create local versions of some of the hottest shows in the U.S. The new unit will also assume management of the existing formats in the Twentieth Century Fox library, including prominent shows such as “Temptation Island,” “Beauty and the Geek,” “Big Fat Obnoxious Fiancé,” and “Celebrity Spelling Bee.”
“Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution will continue to bring our scripted formats to the international market, and we also look forward to working alongside David and his new group to help advance the presence of Fox unscripted programming around the world,” said Edwards. “We look forward to supporting Fox LOOK with the strength of our international sales expertise.”
“It’s great to have a distribution arm dedicated solely to our shows,” said Mike Darnell, President of Alternative Programming at Fox Broadcasting Company. “I’m encouraged that our hits will be enjoyed by millions of additional viewers.”
Lyle most recently served as President of Fox Reality Channel, and is a reality television expert whose career spans 25 years across more than 20 countries. He has served as President of Entertainment at FremantleMedia North America, Worldwide Head of Acquisition and Development at Pearson Television, and as Head of Development at Australia’s Nine Network.
“Unscripted programming provides compelling entertainment that’s very cost effective,” said Lyle. “As international television networks, and their needs for programming, continue to grow, Fox LOOK will be uniquely positioned to meet that demand.”
Fox LOOK will be based in Los Angeles and also include select staff at various international locations.
