EXCLUSIVE: After a lengthy search, Mireille Enos, (HBO’s Big Love) has landed the lead
in the AMC drama pilot The Killing. The project, from Fox TV Studios, will be directed by Patty Jenkins from a script by Veena Sud. Described as Prime Suspect meets The Wire, The Killing is based on the successful Danish series Forbrydelsen. Set in Seattle, it tells the story of the murder of a young girl and the subsequent police investigation through the perspective of the detectives, the grieving family, and the suspects. It centers on Sarah (Enos), the lead homicide detective that investigates the murder.
Enos joins previously cast Billy Campbell as Seattle’s city council president, Michelle Forbes and Brent Sexton as the victim’s parents as well as Eric Ladin, Jamie Anne Allman, and Joel Kinnaman. Production on the pilot is scheduled to begin May 10th in Vancouver. Denmark-born producer Mikkel Bondesen (Burn Notice) of Fuse Entertainment brought the format to FtvS where he is based and executive produces the pilot with Sud. Fuse’s Kristen Campo co-produces.
Enos, who was nominated for a Tony in 2005 for Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf, has recurred on Big Love, playing twin sisters Kathy and Jodean Marquart. The Killing is one of two drama pilots AMC greenlighted in January. The other one, Walking Dead, was recently given a series order.

Huge congratulations to Mikkel, Kristen, Patty, and Veena! Well deserved.
Wow – she is awesome on “Big Love.” This should be a fun show (hopefully!).
Couldn’t help noticing how the AMC brand has been elevated in my mind. Reading this article, all I could think was ‘well, it must be very good’. Can’t wait.
This show sounds like it’s going to be good. Looks like AMC is making a push to be the next HBO with its dramas.
Do Mikkel’s EP duties include life coaching Sud and her staff? And do all of their crystals get charged against the show on a per episode basis, cause that’s some major cash!
Never ceases to amaze how some in H’wood just can’t resist an anonymous cheap shot when someone else succeeds in getting something put together against the odds. My experience tells me the shot taker is rarely someone who’s actually made something. A sad commentary on the calibre and mindset of the professional class in town.
Well said, Mikkel … clearly ;-)
Veena Sud’s range is about an inch wide. This sounds like every episode of Cold Case she ever wrote. Definitely the least talented showrunner AMC has ever gambled on. We’ll see how this goes…
Sounds like Twin Peaks all over again.
Eric Ladin is the real star of the show! He’s the best actor in town!
Mireille Enos is a big talent, and a black belt. Hi-YAH!!!!!!!!!!!
she is one of the best writers in town. stop drinking the hatorade!
Did you just say Veena Sud is one of the best writers in town?
Would that be like one of the best thousand writers in town?
I think Jamie Anne Allman is terrific! Hope the pilot does well!
Jamie Allman is an extremely talented actress. She will be a valuable addition to any show. A great talent.
Jamie Anne Allman (Brown) is either one of the finest acting talents ever or I’m a complete lunatic. Her scene on the porch in Notebook and as she was leaving her dinner with Noah and Allie was classic. She shakes my very soul with the depth of her talent. She can “say more” with a look in a few short seconds than other actors can in the whole movie. IMHO that short display of her skill should be what all other actors are judged by. Why she continues to be buried well down the list of the other cast members in her movies is a mystery to me. She is in a rare class with Anthony Hopkins and very few others. Don’t “they” get it?
Darth Angel’s brain is about an inch wide. Veena’s an amazing writer and you’re obviously just envious of her talent.
It’s Brendan Sexton, not Brent, different actor.
Congrats, Mireille! You’ve come a long way since David Morgan’s acting class…
The original Danish version is one of the best TV series and is up there with The Wire. And a massive part of its success is the Scandinavian atmosphere and culture that permeates through the whole series.
So whilst I expect that the remade will be a decent copy, please go and seek out the original as you will see the program as it was supposed to be made. I do not see why things have to be remade if the original is just about as good as you get.
