CULVER CITY, Calif., February 10, 2010 – Spider-Man will swing into theaters worldwide in 3D beginning July 3, 2012, it was announced today by Jeff Blake, Chairman of Sony Pictures Worldwide Marketing & Distribution. The new film which is still untitled, will begin production later this year directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt. Avi Arad and Laura Ziskin will produce the film from Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios.
Commenting on the announcement, Blake said, “Spider-Man is the ultimate summer movie-going experience, and we’re thrilled the filmmakers are presenting the next installment in 3D. Spider-Man is one of the most popular characters in the world, and we know audiences are eager and excited to discover Marc’s fantastic vision for Peter Parker and the franchise.”

No Topher Grace then.
Ich würde gern spiderman spielen!^^
But will it be FILMED in 3-D, or one of those “post-converted” titles like Harry Potter, Clash of the Titans, etc?? I don’t think studios realize there is a HUGE difference. When you see something like Avatar, that was filmed in 3-D, it truly is an immersive experience. But when they post-convert a film, it feels like a 2-D movie with a lame gimmick added. Rather than true 3-dimensional depth, there are just layers of 2-D images.
Personally, any film that wasn’t actually FILMED in 3-D, I don’t even bother seeing.
For some reason, I thought this was already announced. Were they EVER considering for it NOT to be in 3D?
They better fast-track it because I have a feeling 3D films will oversaturate the market.
Wow I can’t wait..but why did it take so long?? two more years.. and if Zac Efron is still playing Spidey imma be pissed lol. Peter ain’t suppose to be a pretty boy. Anyway, it’s about time. Is it going to be in IMAX 3D as well?
It better b in IMAX 3D not that crap blue and red stuff
Can we get all the big directors together and have James Cameron hold a symposium on how to appropriately use 3D?
I am not at all shocked by this, but am also not a fan of this 3D re-explosion. I thought Avatar was great, but more often than not, the 3D is just a gimmick to upcharge on pricing and it feels it.
Anyone wanna place bets as to the first 3D film that will “fail”? It will likely happen before Spider-man reboot. My money is on “Cabin in the Woods” next year.
Totally agree. Avatar proved it could be used effectively. Every other 3D movie I’ve seen has just been gimmicky to make more at the B.O.
I know DVD sales are in the dumps right now — but it’s still a revenue stream that makes some nice pocket change for the studios.
With all these movies going to 3D, I hope they realize people aren’t gonna wanna buy a movie that can’t be 3D on their television. And don’t tell me they have the technology because they don’t — that MJ show at the Grammy’s was a joke.
Can’t wait to see Spidey’s package in 3D.
Who’s playing Spidey? That Lautner kid? If they are going to redo it, really redo it. Make him black or a woman. Oh, right. The fan boys heads would explode.
Make Spider-Man a woman? Really? Really, Peggy?
Sam Worthington as Peter Parker and Zoe Saldana as Mary Jane!
In order for me to be remotely interested, the movie first has to be good. Good luck making a better Spider man movie than the second film, that was pretty much the peak for Spider-Man. Apparently every movie studio thinks that because Avatar made $2.2 billion, so can they, even with crap movies.
When I think of 3D I think of gimmicky.
Didn’t see this coming at all… Genius, pure genius…
sigh.
I agree with the commenter that mentioned he would not see a movie that was converted in post to 3D. “Spider Man” being shot for 3D will be an experience worth seeing. Lets please, for now, look at this “Spider Man” reboot as the “glass half full.” At least with “500 Days of Summer” Marc Webb proved that he is a genius director of tone, style, and substance, and not afraid to take a risk. That is just the shot in the arm this franchise needs.
IS Joel Schumacher directing? This sounds like how Warners dropped the ball with Batman
This movies gona suck. Reboot is a terrible idea. May as well just stop making the movies altogether if it ain’t gona be continuing the story after the first 3 with Maguire.
yea
