I have this from several sources, and it’s definitive. Filming on the back-to-back movies would begin in mid-October, and Summit Entertainment is looking at “high end” directors. Breaking Dawn is the longest in Stephenie Meyer’s 4-book series lengthwise and it’s the most graphic — presenting birth, attempted murder, death, and of course vampire bites. Published on August 2, 2008, it has a happy ending for most of the characters. Divided into 3 parts, the 1st and 3rd sections are told from the point of view of Bella (Kristen Stewart), and the second section from the perspective of Jacob (Taylor Lautner). It prominently features all 3 favorite characters including Edward (Robert Pattinson). Summit Entertainment no doubt will save money by making these Twilight Saga movies #4 and #5 back to back. Screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg (who’s written all the Twilight Saga films) is currently adapting Breaking Dawn. Eclipse, the 3rd movie, will be released on June 30th. Meanwhile, Yen Press, the graphic novel imprint of Hachette Book Group, announced last month that it will publish the first volume in the graphic novel adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight on March 16th. Due to the length of the prose novel, the book will be divided into 2 volumes and the release date for the second volume is forthcoming. Containing selected text from Meyer’s original novel with illustrations by Korean artist Young Kim, it’s a fusion of Asian and Western comic techniques in mostly black-and-white with color interspersed throughout. Novelist Meyer consulted throughout the artistic process and had input on every panel.

Of course there will be two movies. Why wouldn’t Summit try to milk the hell out of everything this franchise is worth? Instead of one longer 3 hour movie.
Peter Jackson fit one of the most expansive and vast literature worlds, complete with myth, language, races, and history into 3 films.
Actually… Peter Jackson left out a whole lot, and would have been better making that into 6 movies.

Seriously! That Rosenberg is a bad screen writer, she cannot adapt films. They left out and changed so much of the books! Hopefully by making Breaking Dawn in two films, they will include a lot more.

What else happens in the book – they get married, have a baby, Jacob leaves his pack, the Volturi come – they have a conversation, Bella protects everyone – the Volturi leaves! Everyone gets a happy ending! Surely that can all fit into 1 film!!

Oh thank god, im so relieved to hear theyre putting it into 2 movies, because you will definitley see more of whats in the bok than you would if they were to make it into one. Its really smart and genious I cant wait to see and hear more about this! :)
the first two films left out an awful lot of what would be considered vital in the books, but i am not bothered by that, movies and books are kinda a diffeent perspective on the same story, frankley nm was amazing (not as amazing as i’m sure David Slade will make eclipse) but stories have to be shown in a different dynamic, that does not make them worse, only different. I think bd should be 2 i just don’t know how it can be done, i will leave that to the proffessionals, after all isn’t that what they done all along??????

Well I like the story… And I agree with Edward’s “constipated face” in the movies. Lol. And I hate all the overly infatuated twilight Tweens that bounce between twilight and beiber… A bit annoying. First movie was crappy IMO, but the this is one series that gets better as it goes on, and I see the last two movies being better than the first!

I love the 2 book idea, the book is to long and way too detailed to be one book. There is definatly ways to film around the birth scene to make it a little less grotesque, because I am sure..those that have actually read this book have imagined what that would look like, it’s definatly possible to film around it, I just hope they keep the essence of what’s happening there, keep it dramatic you know like it is when your readin it and going OMG!!. I’m concerned with the after part, how to film bella going through that process silently because of the morphine and everyone being oblivious..I think the after(after that part) is going to be fun to watch..anyways..2 books is a great idea! :D

That’s funny. Summit clearly doesn’t care about anything but money. MR is the most hated person in the world to Twilight fans. She hates, hates E/B which is why 98% of the audience read the books in the first place. She cuts all of their scenes to half their length and adds longer scenes for Taylor Lautner including nudity (see Eclipse script). Its creepy and hated by pretty much every fan. The fans don’t want two movies and certainly not if a huge chunk will be devoted (again) to MR’s pet Jacob/Taylor. Check the fansites Summit. Greed is not good.

This is actually horrible news. The majority of the fans hate the book Breaking Dawn, so the reaction to this news is widely negative. Hopefully Breaking Dawn won’t be a career killer for the actors. And why on earth they brought back Rosenberg after her last 2 failed attempts at adapting the screenplays is beyond me. Guess it is all about the money!

I for one, am so happy that Breaking Dawn will be made into two films. I just hope that they don’t leave out too many details from the book like they did with Twilight and New Moon. Rather make two, 3 hour movies and get every detail in. They should end the first film when Jacob walks down the stairs and sees Renesme for the first time, that way, the people who haven’t read the books, and by that I mean people who have been living under a rock, will not know if Edward ends up saving Bella or if Jacob ends up killing Renesme. I also hope that Stephenie Meyer finishes the book, Midnight Sun, which is told from Edwards point of view. It would be great if all 4 sagas were re-written from Edwards side. It would be nice to get to know that character better. Also, I hope Stephanie continues with the Twilight Saga, because it would be really nice to see what happens to the characters after Breaking Dawn. I just don’t think they should make them into films though, don’t get me wrong, I love the films, but it wouldn’t be the same with other actors playing the parts. ‘Cause as you know, the Vampires don’t age…and the actors do. Taylor Lautner, Billy Burke, Kristen Stewart, Nikki Reed, Elizabeth Reaser, Ashley Greene, Peter Facinelli, Kellan Lutz, Jackson Rathbone and of course, the sexy, Robert Pattinson, are too much a part of these films to be replaced. Love the books, love the films and absolutely love and adore Rob Pattinson. I can’t wait for the next three films, Eclipse and the two Breaking Dawns. SOUTH AFRICAN FAN!
I must say this post is the best one I’ve read. I am a Christian who had a problem with this series from the beginning. I talked to a few friends at work and they seem to think these books was well worth reading. I bought the set for $62.00 from target along with the blue ray movie. I started reading the first book and decided to take off a week of work to read them. Yes, I read all four books in one week. I am a 51 year old black female. This is the first time I’ve changed my habits for the first time in my life doing some so drastic like this I am a series gamer and have not touched any of my game consoles during this time. I say all this to qualify why I feel the same as the writer in this post. Please finish Midnight Sun. I love this point of view from Edward. Yes, please finish the series. We’ve seen the lives of all the other characters relationships. I would love to see a little of the live with Edward/Bella. It’s only fair. I like how you leave enough for the imagination by not letting this be so gory. The spin you put on the so called monsters was wonderful. I am a die hart for love stories. You don’t get a better than this. We should be lucky to find this type of happiness in real life. In closing I do hate that someone violated your publishing rights. However, please don’t give in to this at the expense of our readers. We will support anything you do with this project.
I agree this post is the best one I’ve read so far and decided to respond. I would also like to read Edward Cullen’s point of view so yes please finish Midnight Sun. I would love to see a little of the live with Edward/Bella since this is about the magnetism between the two of them. I loved the books. My son and his partner gave me The Twilight Book for Christmas and it took me 2 days to finish the book and just had to get the rest of the series. I bought the other 3 books and read them in 4 days…I love good clean romance. I hope to read more on this series. Just dont make the movies so FAR apart. In closing, I think robert and Kristen look so connected when they are together.
I totally love the fact of finishing the book Midnight sun I am 17 and at first my friends were like you have to read the books and I was like no there stupid and one day my sister got breaking dawn and I was like hey let me read twilight and after that I fell in love and I was hooked and I finished the books in 2 weeks so I say finish the last book. and thats cool with me making 2 movies out of breaking dawn but I do think I speak for everybody don’t make the movies so far apart.
I am a 62 years. Last summer my daughter told me to come to her place & watch Twilight. I reluctantly agreed. I kept falling asleep, so I agreed to take the book home. It took me a month to get struggle thru 65 pages. Then it kicked in. As of today I have read all four books four times and am going out to find my own copy of BD. As far as the movies go. NM was a wee bit of a disappointment because we saw so little Robert P. (I really would love to be his cougar.) I watch the movies at least twice a day/night. My daughter is now worried about my obsession with all things TWILIGHT. Can hardly wait for ECLIPSE to open. I said BD should be two part from the first time I read it. I just hope the roles of Emmet and Alice won’t have to be recast. So far I feel all the roles were perfectly cast.

I agree with you. I would love to see how “Nessie” and Jacob are doing later in life. The only problem is every few years the Cullens have to leave because they do not age. So how will that work? Hopefully if we wait we will see! Twilight Saga Fan!
I agree with you completely! It would be intresting watching the fans’ ,who have not read the books wich is very rare, faces of excitement for the second Breaking Dawn film. After the first one leaves them guessing what will happen. Two seperate back-to-back films would leave many people hanging. Also, if the series is continued, I would not want the other books to be films either. I would love to see Midnight Sun, if she finishes wrighting the novel, as a film, but of course there are problems with that. How could they get Jacob/Taylor small again? Filmmaking is complicating and a little irritaing. Anyway, I love the Twilight Saga, and I cannot wait for Eclipse and Breaking Dawn to release! Meyer will not be completing Midnight Sun. It says so on her web page. Someone she let see the incomplete copy [she had several each one a little different than the others] leaked it to the internet and revealed what she had written so far in that copy before she was ready. Therefore it really upset her, and she decided that she will not complete it therefore not completing Edward’s point of view. She did post on her web page a copy of what she had already written of Midnight Sun so all her fans could read it instead of trying to search for the leaked copy on the internet. It is quite upsetting, but what can we do? I think she should just be more careful of who she lets see her unfinished copies for now on, and complete the books from Edward’s point of view anyways.

The first half of the book (and therefore the first BD movie) will probably ONLY deal with Bella & Edward’s wedding, sex, pregnancy, and the turning of Bella.
If they end the movie with just a glimpse of Renesme and only a hint that Bella has been turned without really showing her in “glittering vampire beauty” … it will drive the fans NUTS! They’ll return in droves to see the final film.
Hollywood is BRILLIANT.
In the book there’s a 3 month gap after Bella arm wrestles with Emmett, so I think that would be the best place to end the first movie.
this is great news, reaking dawn has soo much content it could never fit into 2 hours so hopefully they will not have to comprimise on what they put into the film straight fro the book :)

This is a HUGE mistake. The last book was the most convoluted, anti-climatic mess of that whole sub-par book series. Melissa Rosenberg will turn in two more banal, inane scripts.
It totally sucks the final book is being split apart. It was horrible enough that book two was hacked all to hell to meet the two and a half hour time limit. It’s not about the book any more, now its about all the dough this money making Twilight Saga machine can make. A-damn-nough already, let’s get to the creame and see Breaking Dawn the way it was written, uncut, one film, bring on the fights instead of the homo stare down’s between Jacob and Edward seen in New Moon. Let’s have blood, and biting, pregnant teenagers, and most importantly let’s have it all in one freaking film.
