President Obama and a black-tie audience bestowed the 2009 Kennedy Center Honors tonight. Mel Brooks and Robert DeNiro joined Bruce Springsteen, jazz pianist Dave Brubeck and opera star Grace Bumbry as this year’s honorees for lifetime achievement in the performing arts. Obama said “These five remarkable performers have helped us sustain and strengthen our nation.” The Kennedy Center Honors will air as a 2-hour prime-time special on CBS December 29th.
