This one had more heart than ‘Dick in a Box.’ And, in SNL Digital Shorts, it’s always the heart that counts.
This was mostly a forgettable SNL. And this was forgettable itself. Dick in a Box should never have been replicated or sequelized, the way virtually all of the skits of SNL are. Only Cowbell has been fortunate to not be sequelized and used ad nauseam.
And its sad that people seem to think Timberlake is the Savior now of SNL. Sure he’s energetic than most hosts, yes. But that doesn’t necesite that to be a classic show. His shows are basically singing monoalgue, Bary Gibb show, more singing crap etc. Plus he’s been overexposed with cameos in nearly half the SNL’s now. The great hosts, Baldwin and Walken dont pop up every week.
One bright spot for the show though was Bill Hader’s Spitzer impression, saving the tiresome Governor Peterson crap. That was a PhilHartmanesque level impression. Its sad they dont do much more with Hader. He’s basically the MVP of the show with his impressions etc. They havent captilized on him being in many of the recent comedy hits like Superbad. A shame.
Bleh… “Dick in the box” was superior.
I’m in Europe .. Eire to be exact…and Jaysus – why does NBC.com not allow us Euro types to view a 3-6 minute video of their show?!?!?!? Same with Hulu. We’re people, too, ya know!!!
@ ArrestedDevelopment/30 Rock Fan
You sound lame and cranky – that was f’in’ hilarious.
Justin T and Andy S sure do bring out the laughs. Not as funny as Dick in a Box, but enough to make me laugh.
ArrestedDevelopment/30 Rock Fan’s assessment of this programming and its players is accurate. Timberlake is a hyperactive corporate zombie, gruesome in his bouncing need for audience approval. A malnourished mall zombie from Tampa who was steered into a talent agent’s office by sinister caregivers. It degrades the independent spirit of the Nikki Finke blog to embed this tired, rancid Nickelodeon for college graduates style entertainment.
Man, you guys are a tough crowd – that was freaking funny!
THIS WAS THE FUNNIEST SKIT EVER. LOVE THEM.
@AD/30 RockFan, dead on about Hader, the show’s only consistently brilliant performer.
I don’t actively dislike Timberlake’s goodhearted-corporate-stooge persona (see Shia Lebeouf for a similar/worse act), but AConcernedCableSubscriber is probably more right than wrong in his assessment.
Is it just me, or did that song sound exactly like it was written/performed by Bret and Jemaine?
Jemaine is the funny one.
BLATANT rip-off of Flight of the Conchords…
