Barack Obama has nominatedhis technology adviser and former Harvard Law School classmate, Julius Genachowski, to head the FCC. Genachowski previously worked at the FCC during the Clinton administration, then worked at Barry Diller’s IAC/InterActive Corp in varuious executive positions for 8 years, and more recently, co-founded a Washington DC venture capital firm called LaunchBox Digital. As the Drudge Report bannered, he’s “The Man Who Will Change Media”. During the Obama campaign, Genachowski put together a detailed technology and innovation plan that expressed support for open Internet or “net neutrality” protections; media-ownership rules that encourage more diversity; and expansion of affordable broadband access across the country. In other words, he sounds like just the guy to hold Big Media’s feet to the fire.
