President Obama guesting on Jay Leno last night gave NBC’s The Tonight Show its highest ratings in five years. But it looks like the nation’s chief is going to have to make cameos on all the network’s shows if NBC is ever going to climb out of the ratings cellar. How bad is it? Well, on Wednesday night, NBC couldn’t even beat Univision. That’s right, Univision topped NBC in both the 8 PM hour (1.7/1.9 compared to NBC’s The Chopping Block which did only 1.2/1.3) and the 9 PM hour (2.2/2.4 compared to NBC’s Life which did only 1.5/1.5). And Univision spends zero on original production. I fear Jeff Zucker is increasingly following that business model.
