I’m told that Universal Pictures chairman Marc Shmuger made the announcement just minutes ago at a town hall meeting for the company. Both Shmuger, Linde and Universal Studios prez/COO Ron Meyer were addressing about 2,000 employees in person and on closed ciruit TV at the Globe Theater at Universal Studios. Shmuger and Linde have been running the movie studio since 2006, so it’s no surprise they have extended their deal from 2009 for another 4 years. What was unexpected is the studio’s decision to have Shmuger share power equally with Linde, who previously was co-chairman to Shmuger’s chairman. But the two guys get along great and have led Universal Pictures to what it claims have been two of the most profitable years in its history.
