I have more about Wolf Films’ (i.e. Law & Order Dick Wolf’s) When You’re Strange, that documentary about The Doors. “When You’re Strange” is a Wolf Films production and Dick just got back from Sundance. Wold wants me to know that, at the world premiere screening last Friday night, a major buyer walked out 10 minutes into the film, enraged and disappointed that the doc was “besmirching Jim Morrison’s memory by using recreations”. When You’re Strange uses a segment of a film that Morrison actually made in 1970, but the buyer assumed it was a recreation because Morrison is a full beard. So Wolf wants to set the record straight that, in fact, there is not one frame in the entire film that was not shot between 1966 and 1970. Also, all the surviving Doors were at Sundance and there were two separate jam sessions – one with Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger, and another with John Densmore (who was also at the Q&A). I’ve already posted how people are telling me this is a “truly amazing” doc with never-before-seen footage covering the entire 54 months of the band. It starts with Jim and Ray in film school, and includes a lot of concert and in-studio footage. “A remarkable trip down memory lane for those of us who experienced the ’60 firsthand,” one screener gushed to me.

More as it comes in to me…
