Yesterday ABC suspended nearly everyone on Jimmy Kimmel Live because it’s in repeats since Jimmy won’t cross the picket line of the WGA (he’s a member). Even Kimmel has been suspended without pay. Before, Kimmel without fanfare had been quietly underwriting the low-paid production people on his show’ since the start of the writers strike while senior staffers were paid by ABC. Now I’ve learned that Kimmel is going to pay the salaries for the “vast majority” of all the suspended staff, including the high-priced veterans. This is amazing because unlike Dave and Jay and Conan, Kimmel is paid the least of the major late night hosts. (I hear single digit millions as opposed to double-digit millions.) Seriously, his friends are worried he’ll tap out doing this. Major props in order.
