I’m told there’s been another court decision today in that $3.2 million jury verdict for Alan Ladd Jr in his battle against Warner Bros for unpaid profits on movies he produced including Blade Runner, Chariots of Fire and the Police Academy franchise. Warner Bros filed four motions to dismiss the original judgment, claiming there should be no damages because the jury erred in finding that the company breached its contract and the implied covenant of fair dealing. But the judge denied all the Warner Bros motions. So this is yet another victory for Laddie.
PS: I was told this morning there’s a quiet campaign among some Hollywood insiders to snag the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award for Laddie, too.
